Derbyshire Sport find additional funding to extend posts

All Community Sport Coach positions in Derbyshire will run until at least September 2008, thanks to additional funding which Derbyshire Sport is able to offer.

More than £35,000 has been earmarked to allow ten Community Sport Coach schemes, which had been due to finish on or around March 31, to be extended until September this year.

These schemes began as part of the first of three phases currently underway, with further schemes already funded beyond September 2008.

All CSC schemes in the county are 50 per cent funded by Sport England, with match funding coming from a coach’s employer, and the total value per year is more than £500,000.

It is hoped that schemes will continue, through the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review and the Five Hour Offer, but no decisions have yet been announced.

This interim funding has been offered to reduce pressure on both coach managers and Community Sport Coaches.

Each scheme will continue under its current Service Level Agreement and each employer will have to commit to providing the 50 per cent match funding.

This investment in CSC along with the continuation of phases 2 and 3 will ensure consistent delivery of sports coaching to young people in Derbyshire.

A total of 64 coaches are currently employed across Derbyshire, and in 2007 alone more than 42,000 young people received coaching.
