Charlie sadly passed away in January 2017. His ICON profile will remain in place in his memory.
Charlie is a 14-year-old mountain bike and cyclo-cross rider from Hayfield who attends Hope Valley College. He is on the Olympic development apprenticeship programme and has won the North of England Youth Championships, hoping in the future to earn a place on British Cycling's junior academy.
Charlie says: "The cyclo cross session is underway with the first two rounds of the national series already taken place. I have gained a fifth place at round one and second place at round 2. I am leading the national trophy series and hope to maintain this through the session.
"I'm also travelling out to race in Belgium at the Ruddervoorde Superprestige race in November. Later on in the season is the National Championships, which are held in Bradford, where I aim to get on to the podium.
"I have currently been accepted to be onto the Olympic development programme for the 2016-17 cross country mountain bike season, and hope to move up onto the junior academy for the following year
"Next summer, the XC MTB National Series starts off in April in Pembrey Park, South Wales and round to follows at Wasing Park, Berkshire, where I aim to get a top three place. My main goal for the season is the XC National Championships which are held at Cannock Chase in July.
"My lifetime goal is to become world champion in either cyclo-cross or cross country mountain biking."
