Caitlin is a 15-year-old discus thrower from Shirland who won the Northern Under-17 championships at Middlesborough in her first year in that category and was selected to represent the Midlands at the School Games, winning a bronze medal with a personal best of 40.78m.
Caitlin says: "After a good season in 2015, in the age group of under 15, I won the English schools and came 2nd at national championships. Over the winter of 2015-16 my coach decided that we needed to move my technique on further, so we decided to change it. I knew that the season of 2016 would be difficult, as I was still learning the new technique, and was moving into a new age group; under 17. However, I surpassed my expectations and managed to gain the Northern U17 discus title, achieve 4th place at the English schools, come 3rd at the UK School Games, and get a 5m PB by the end of the season. With the help of the DIS and ICON my short term goals for 2017 will be to try and qualify for either the youth commonwealth in Bahamas or the World Youth Games in Kenya. Long term, my ultimate aim is to represent my country and maybe in years to come attend the Olympic Games."
