The 17-year-old compound archer, from Ripley and a student at Derby College, is a member of Derwent Bowmen, won the National Championships and has been selected for the Great Britain Archery Development Squad.

Alex says: "I have been shooting for seven years, two of which I have been shooting compound. I am a National Outdoor Champion and also placed fourth on my first Great Britain selection shoot.

"I currently train a minimum of four times a week shooting. My training consists of going to the gym to train all areas of muscles, doing drills to improve on technique, running a minimum of once a week, and going to countless competitions.

"Over 2015, I have improved dramatically. In 2016, I have set myself new goals I want to achieve. The most important is to keep enjoying the sport I love without forcing myself to do it.

"I aim to become the Indoor Junior National Champion at the Junior Nationals in December.

I will be taking part in a competition abroad against the best in the world, in France. I have ambitions of placing first in the juniors to become a winner of a world series.

"As I have reached the Great Britain selection shoot criteria, I have the opportunity to shoot for a place to go to the Outdoor European Championships In Romania.

"I have set a goal to place in the top two at this event to give me the chance to represent Great Britain in Romania in May.

"Over the course of 2016, I want to achieve scores that will allow me to go to the selection shoot in 2017 and have a chance to go to the worlds in Argentina.

"My ultimate sporting ambition for Archery is to become a World Champion representing Great Britain. I look forward to the upcoming year and have high hopes of achieving my goals."
