We recognise that inequalities currently do exist and that some groups are not involved in sport as much as others. We are committed to working to overcome these inequalities.
To us Sports Equality is about:
fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them
changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society
making sure that all people can realise their talent and fulfil their potential and
an individual’s responsibility to challenge discriminatory practice and promote inclusion.
To help us in this work, Derbyshire Sport has signed up to achieve the “Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport”.
This standard has been drawn up to help organisations such as County Sports Partnerships and National Governing Bodies develop their structures and processes, assess their performance and make improvements in relation to sports equality.
By working through the standard we will have to look at how we currently operate and consider what and how we can do better to increase the numbers of people from all community groups taking part and enjoying sport.
The Equality Standard has four levels, Foundation, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced. Derbyshire Sport achieved the Foundation Level in June 2007 and is aiming to achieve the Preliminary level.
